Alice was born on July 4, 1934 in Ionia, Michigan to Elmer and Hazel (Beckhorn) Coates. She graduated from Ionia High School in 1952. On May 28, 1955, she married Gerald (Jerry) E. Mason, and were married for 50 years. In the 1950’s, Alice worked at the local telephone company. After the birth of her first child, Alice “retired” from the workforce to devote her time to her family. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She was a member of Shiloh Community Church for 35 years, and had initiated a nursing home visitation program within the church during the 1970’s. Her activities were crocheting, gardening, baking, cake decorating, babysitting, and visiting with family and friends. She was a very thoughtful person and expressed her love by remembering family members’ and friends’ special days with gifts and cards. Often her gifts were handmade. During her children’s school days, she volunteered her services at the school library. As Alice peacefully left this earth, her husband was by her side, holding her hand. Her life brought love and happiness to this earth. She will be dearly missed. Alice is survived by her husband; daughters, Audrey (Steven) Ackerson of Benton Harbor, and Tina Mason-Hall of Kalamazoo; brothers, Richard (Aileen) Coates of Ionia, and Gordon (Barb) Coates of Jenison; sister, Marie McCarn of Ionia; sisters-in-law Esther Coates of Ionia and Beverly Coates of Stanton; many nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Linda Sue Feuerstein; sister, Dorothy Rumohr; brothers, William Coates and Harry Ray Coates; brother- in-aw, Edward Vern McCarn; nephews, Roy Nyman and Ken Coates; and niece, Rose Rumohr. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 2 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Huffman Brigham Funeral Chapel, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding. A memorial service will be held with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating, on Wednesday, August 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Community Church, 8197 Heth Street, Orleans.
