Mason, 77, of Belding died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997 at United Memorial Hospital. She was born July 19, 1920 in Otisco Township, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Breuer Laux. She was a school teacher in the public school system for many years, teaching for five years before leaving to raise her family. She then went back and taught until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of The Retired Teachers Association, The Belding Gardeneers, The Grattan Historical Society, The Belding Literary Club and was very active in St. Joseph’s Church and the Belding community. She was married June 19, 1948 in Belding, to Martin G. Mason. She is survived by her children, Janet Green of Grand Rapids, Susan and Dennis Clockman of Comstock Park, Judy K. Mason of Grand Rapids, George and Susan Mason of Belding, Frank and Lynn Mason of Belding, Daniel and Judi Mason of Comstock Park and Paul and Theresa Mason of Traverse City; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Malone of Belding; one brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Elizabeth Laux of Grand Rapids; and one sister-in-law, Doris Laux of Belding. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, on Jan. 6, 1990 and three brothers, Edward, Clarence and Ted Laux. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father George Darling officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Miriam. Visitation will be Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a vigil service at 8 p.m. Friday with Deacon Howard Scheid officiating at the Johnson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Belding Gardeneers, The Grattan Historical Society or the St. Joseph’s Building fund.
