The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, August 13, 2009

Lee Mast, aged 93, of Ionia went to be with his Lord and Savior August 12, 
2009. He was born July 21, 1916 in Bath Twp. the son of Jacob and Lillie 
(Barnes) Mast.

In 1927 at the age of 10, he was in the horrible Bath Schools explosion which 
killed 43 children, teachers and school officials. He played his horn in the 
Bath High School Band and in the Laingsburg Community Band on Saturday nights 
during the summer while people did their shopping.  He graduated from Bath 
High School in 1935 and later from Michigan Technical Institute in Detroit. 
His electrical work kept him busy working for Barker Fowler Electric and the 
Lansing State Journal where he retired from after 37 years.

He married Wanon L. Lackey from Laingsburg on July 26, 1947. They had two 
adopted children Wanda (Mike) Conner of Ionia and Dennis L. Mast of Kincheloe, 
MI.  After retiring he and Wanon spent many winters in Arizona and did a lot 
of traveling with their dear Indiana friends. He enjoyed playing gospel music 
in the senior parks, jamborees and in nursing homes.

Funeral services for Lee will be held Friday 2:00 P.M. at the Lake Funeral 
Home in Ionia with Pastor Frank Lattimore officiating. Interment in Rose 
Cemetery in Bath Twp. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until the time of 
services. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Ionia Area Hospice.
