Mathe, 63, of 454 Hill street died at 6 a.m., Friday at Ionia County Memorial hospital where he was confined December 12 following an accident while working at a gravel pit on East Riverside drive. He had been employed part time at Ionia County Road Commission about 10 years. He was born in Germany July 27, 1898 and had resided on Hill street 33 years, and was a member of St. Johns Lutheran church. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Max G. Mathe. Surviving are his wife, Josephine, to whom he was married 38 years; three daughters, Mrs. Neil Fletcher of Ionia, Mrs. Dena Gibbs and Mrs. Harold Whitelock of Portland; two sons, Richard Mathe of Ionia, and Robert Mathe of Nashville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Aflred Mathe, and a sister, Gertrude in Germany. Prayers services will be held at Myers funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Monday and funeral at St. Johns Lutheran church at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Balcom cemetery.
