Joe Mathes, formerly of Smyrna, more recently of Parnell, died in Butterworth 
hospital Thursday, after a brief illness.

He was born in Detroit, September 17, 1900, and had been a drug salesman for 
several years.  Surviving are his wife, Mabel, one daughter, Joan Sief and one 
grandson, Patrick Michael, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Lynch and one brother, Dr. 
Charles Mathes, of Detroit.

Funeral services will be held Monday at nine o’clock at St. Patricks, Parnell.  
Ronan Funeral Directors of Grand Rapids cared for the body and it was taken to 
the family home at Parnell until time for the service.
