Mathews, died at her home in this village on the first inst. from the effects of pneumonia, aged 79 years. Deceased was the mother of Jennie and Kate Mathews, and was one of the oldest settlers of Portland and Orange townships, having removed to this village from their farm in Orange after the death of her husband, some twelve or fourteen years ago. The funeral services were conducted from the Catholic church on Tuesday of this week and interment made in the Protestant cemetery. ---- Mrs. Charles Mathews died at Portland on Friday last. Her husband died in 1881. They settled in Orange in ’45, fifty years ago, and were among the best known of early pioneers. Funeral was at Portland Tuesday morning.
