Funeral services will be held Friday morning at St. Patrick church with burial in Portland cemetery. Mrs. Mathews was born at Lebanon, Indiana, and came to this vicinity when a young girl. Her maiden name was Clara Lloyd. During her young womanhood she spent two years at Monroe convent and when 22 years of age was united in marriage to Charles Mathews, who passed away a number of years ago. For some time after her marriage she resided in Sebewa on the place known as the Vene Franks farm, later moving to Ionia where she remained until 45 years ago when she again came to Portland residing here since. She was a devout Christian and member of the Christian Mothers; a friendly neighbor and devoted wife and mother who will be sadly missed by a large circle of friends made throughout her almost lifelong residence in this vicinity. Three sons and two daughters survive. They are John B., of Portland; Samuel, of Lansing; Leo, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Miss Katheryne, at home, and Miss Alice, of Lansing.
