Kenneth J. Matlock, of Ionia, age 77 passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009.

He was born on Dec. 25, 1931 in Detroit the son of John and Josephine 
(Szypanik) Matlock and was educated in Detroit community colleges He was a 
Veteran of the U.S. Army serving at Ford Motor Company before becoming a police 
officer of the City of Detroit in 1953 when he was employed for 13 years until 
becoming an insurance investigator for AAA until 1971. In 1974 he was employed 
by the State Corrections Department as a Sgt. in Ionia, retiring in December of 
1985. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ionia and life 
member of the D.A.V.

Surviving is a son, John (Karen) Matlock of Southfield; 3 stepchildren, Robert 
Patrick, Penny Sharp and LeRoy Starks; 2 grandchildren, Jason and Brian 
Matlock; brother, Arthur (Jeanette) Matlock of Detroit; 2 step grandchildren, 
Maggie and Brandon; nieces and special friends, Lisa and Bill Tompkins. The 
family would like to thank the Ionia Area Hospice for all of their wonderful 
care given to Ken during his illness.

The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the 
Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia, with the Rev. Melvin Fox 
presiding. Interment will take place at a later date at Great Lakes National 
Cemetery in Holly. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 
and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made 
to the Ionia Area Hospice in memory of Mr. Kenneth J. Matlock. Online
