Karen Yvonne Matthews, age 62, of Ionia, formerly of Belding and Florida, 
passed away at Heartland Health Care Center in Ionia on Tuesday, September 16.  
She was born on November 22, 1951 in Ionia, Michigan, the daughter of Owen and 
Alice (Shattuck) Dulek, both of whom preceded her in death.  

She graduated with honors from Belding High School with the Class of 1969, and 
worked for many years for the Gibson and Frigidaire Companies in Belding.  She 
married Dave Matthews and he preceded her in death in April of 2005.  For many 
years, Karen attended Green Corners Baptist Church.  She enjoyed crocheting and 
gardening of all types.  Karen also enjoyed sun bathing, faithfully watched 
televised church services and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Karen leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Kristopher Matthews and Todd 
Matthews of Ionia; grandchildren, Kaylee Matthews, Allen Sage and Sammy Beiser; 
siblings Andrew Dulek of Fenwick, Ken (Bobbie) Dulek of Belding, Kathy Battle 
of Ionia, Robin (Pete) Louria of Saranac and Lloyd Dulek of Ionia; and several 
nieces, nephews and many friends.  
 
A Life Celebration Gathering will take place on Friday, September 26, at Verdun 
Family Funeral Home, at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, 
Belding, beginning at 1 p.m. with the Service at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor 
David Oliver.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are welcomed to 
consider a memorial contribution in Karen’s memory to the wishes of the 
family.  Envelopes will be available at the gathering or by contacting the 
funeral home at (616) 794-1300.
