Portland Observer, 8 Jan 1914

George Mattice, a resident of Portland for many years, died at his home on the 
west side, Wednesday evening, of cancer of the stomach.  He was 54 years of age 
and was born in Erie, Pa., although he had lived in this vicinity most of his 
life.  On March 3, 1886 he was married to Mrs. Belle Miller, of Portland, the 
ceremony being performed in Battle Creek.  The widow survives.  The funeral will 
be held from the late residence Friday afternoon at 2:00, conducted by Rev. 
Millard, and the remains will be buried in Portland cemetery.
