The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, February 21, 1946
Mrs. Caroline Matzdorf, 90, died at the home of her nephew, Floyd 
Bettinghouse, Orleans township, Wednesday at 2 p.m. after an illness of about 
11 weeks.  She was born January 17, 1856, in Toledo, Ohio and came to Grand 
Rapids at the age of three years where she has lived for 85 years.  She is the 
last of nine children and at the time of her death was the oldest member of 
the Second Congregational church, Grand Rapids.  She was a past member of the 
Sunlight Rebekah lodge.

She is survived by five nephews, Floyd Bettinghouse of Orleans, Clyde 
Bettinghouse of Los Angeles, California, Ray Leffingwell of Ionia, Frank 
Leffingwell of Detroit and Will Freeman of Grand Rapids; four nieces, Miss 
Jennie Bordeaux of Buffalo, New York, Mrs. Louetta Vallema of Springfield, 
Mass, and Mrs. Hazel Appel of Grand Rapids.

Funeral services will be held from the Boynton funeral home Saturday, February 
23 at 1:30 o’clock.  The Rev. Melbourne Stadt will officiate at the service.  
Interment will be at the Fairplains cemetery in Grand Rapids.
