He was born in Portland Nov. 28, 1923. Mr. Mauren graduated from Portland High School in 1941 and from Michigan State University 1948. He was a veteran of WW II having served with Advance Headquarters - Ninth Air Force in the European theatre of Operations. Mr. Mauren was employed with the family newspaper business, Portland review and Observer from 1948-1964. Surviving are his wife Clara; daughter, Mary Kay Mauren of Bethesda, Md.; son, Fred Mauren of East Lansing, currently serving at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad; brother, Richard Mauren, and sister, Margaret Schrauben, both of Portland. The funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 28 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, East Lansing, with the Rev. David J. Speicher officiating. The Rite of Committal was held in Portland Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home, East Lansing. Contributions may be made to the charity's of one's choice.
