Feb.1, 1936 Henry J. Maurer Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the home for Henry J. Maurer, 81, whose death occurred at his home near Hubbardston Monday morning. Rev. P.N. Drake officiated and burial was at East Plains cemetery. Mrs and Mrs. Charles Langdon provided the music and the bearers were Fred Chick, Henry Tabor, Harold Smith, Paul Langdon, Lyle Bennett and Charles Langdon. Attending from away were Miss Bernice Maurer, Irvington, New Jersey; Miss Edna Becker, Berwyn, Ill.; Mr and Mrs. D. B.Robinson, Grand Rapids; Mrs. Fred Blutcher and William Hill, of Carson City; Mrs.Peter Spaans and Mrs.Lillie Owen, Lyons. Surviving him are the widow and four children, Mrs. Ethel Moore, Hubbardston; Miss Bernice Maurer, Irvington, N. J.; Floyd H. Maurer, Oakland, Cal., and Mrs. Hazel Lindeman of Douglas, Ariz. and one granddaughter, three nieces and five nephews. Mr. Maurer was born in Grand Rapids, November 21, 1855. At the age of 19 years he went to Freeport, Ill. and soon thereafter to the Black Hills, of South Dakota, where he remained three years. He returned to Freeport where he worked at the trade of carpenter. December 29, 1881, he was married to Miss Jennie R. Pope, of Freeport. Five years later he returned to Grand Rapids and worked there until 1892 when he moved to the North Plains farm home where he died. He had been in failing health for a number of years, and his death came during his sleep early Monday morning. When Mrs. Maurer went to help him get up, she found him dead. He united with the Methodist church at Hubbardston by letter from the Calvary Baptist church of Grand Rapids. Mr. and Mrs. Maurer celebrated their golden wedding in 1931.
