Katherine E. May, 84, of Ionia and formerly of Portland, passed away on 
Thursday, March 17, 2011.

Katherine was born on Feb. 16, 1927 in Litchfield the daughter of Delmer and 
Evelyn (Lazarus) Ward. Katherine enjoyed tending to her gardens and making 
scrap books. She retired in 1976 from the Michigan Dept. of Public Health after 
25 years of service.

Katherine married Francis May on February 23, 1947 and he preceded her in death 
in 1985. She is also preceded in death by a grandson, Erik Wolever in 1996 and 
two brothers Arthur Ward and Delmer Ward Jr.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy (Dan) Wolever of Ionia; grandson, Cody 
(Teressa) Wolever of Lyons; great grandchildren Cameron and Teagan Wolever; and 
sisters, Virginia Early of Idaho and LaVonna Bonville of California.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011 at the 
Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. Interment will 
follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 to4 and 6 to8 
p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at
