Jan. 2, 2008 Frederick J. May, Portland, age 79, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 He was born Sept. 12, 1929 in Portland the son of William and Anna (Bohr) May. Fred retired from Cook Brothers Excavating Portland after 33 years, was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Portland VFW Post # 4090. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary May and many brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Germaine P. Pay; children, Linda Sue (Jim) Spring of Portland, Debbie (Richard) Cuthbert of St. Johns, Brian (Lisa) May of Portland Connie (Paul) Hengesbach of Eagle, Scott (Jane) May of Eagle and Kevin (Tracy) May of Kalamazoo; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Leon (Jeri) May of Portland, sisters, Laurine Spitzley of Milliken and Sister Joan May, SSR of Goodrich, Mich. and several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Larry King, Pastor at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rite of Committal following at Portland Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Portland VFW Post #4090. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben- Lehman Funeral Home, Portland from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Thursday and 3 p.m. Friday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association the St. Patrick’s Boiler Fund, or to the American Diabetes Foundation, in memory of Frederick J.
