Ionia Sentinel Standard, 5 Mar 1970

A lifelong Westphalia and Portland area resident, Mrs. Katherine May, 72, of 2_7
Brush, Portland, died Wednesday of a heart attack according to Coroner Richard Hull
who with Ionia County Sheriff’s officers investigated.  She was born April 11, 1897
in Clinton county and a member of St. Patrick’s church in Portland and its Altar
society.

Surviving are her husband, Harry, one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Hengesbach of Portland,
three grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Pauline Martin of Portland, five brothers,
Peter Smith of Lansing, John of Newaygo, Leo, Anthony and William Smith of
Portland.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patricks Catholic church, Rev.
Fr. Stephen Kolema? will officiate and interment will be at Portland cemetery. 
Rosary will be recited Friday at 8:15 p.m. at Neller funeral home in Portland. 
Bearers will be Reynold Hengesbach, Charles Martin, Donald and Fred May, Charles and
Fred Smith.
