LaWayne was born on April 12, 1917, in Ionia, Michigan. In 1940, he married his high school sweetheart, Frances Eldridge. They had recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Wayne began his professional career as a meat cutter and worked 43 years for Schmidt’s Supermarkets where he retired as its meat buyer and Vice President in charge of the meat departments and delicatessens. He will be remembered as a caring, fun loving person of utmost honesty and integrity. He was an avid golfer and card player and made many friends over these favorite activities . The Maynards were members of the Portland Country Club and attended the First United Methodist Church in Lansing. Their legacy will live on in the people who have had the privilege of being a part of their lives. They will be especially missed by nieces Gale Eldridge and Sharon Hasse who helped care for them. Mr. Maynard was preceded in death by his loving wife Frances, brother Jack (Martha) Maynard, in-laws Robert (Velma) Howe, Claude (Julia) Eldridge, and Arthur and Virginia Eldridge. He is survived by nephews Terry and Sam (Sharon) Maynard, in-laws Martha Maynard, Kenneth and Alice Eldridge, Velma Howe, Julia Eldridge, Alice Parrish, Don Hartman, eight other nieces and nephews, and many great- and great-great nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Ingham Hospice Services for providing special care during his final days at home. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday February 26, at the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw St., Lansing. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 4444 W. Grand River Ave., Lansing. Contributions may be made to Ingham Hospice Services.
