He has been an invalid for several years. Mr. McAlary was born in Ireland March 14, 1859 and came to Ionia when a young man. He was employed in the Pere Marquette shops for 52 years, retiring about 10 years ago. On October 24, 1888, he was united in marriage with Miss Bertha Cross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cross, and they observed their golden wedding anniversary in October of this year. Besides his widow, Mr. McAlary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lee Panney, Mrs. Frank Gierman, Ionia and Mrs. Ed Sharkey of Grand Rapids, and one son, William James, Jr., of Grand Rapids He also leaves one brother Alex McAlary, Ionia, and a sister Mrs. N. Hegland of Bay City. Funeral service was held from SS Peter and Paul church Thursday morning at nine o’clock with burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Pall bearers were Frank Frost, Frank Wirtz, Dr. J. J. McCann, Andrew Gilhooly, Roman Steinberg and Frank Carten.
