McCann, dean of Ionia physicians: “Miami, Fla. (AP)—Dr. John J. McCann, 74, a physician from Ionia, Mich., died today of injuries suffered when struck by a Miami transit bus. The accident occurred yesterday as the doctor’s wife, Mrs. Helen McCann, and a niece, Edith McCann, were walking ahead of him.” Accident investigator Morris Rowe said the prominent Ionia city physician was hit as he walked across the street between the yellow marks of the crosswalk. Rowe ordered an autopsy, and said he would ask Peace Justice Thomas S. Ferguson to hold an inquest. The investigator identified the bus driver as Leonard D. Beeper, 31, of Miami. He was charged with reckless driving for failing to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian at a crosswalk. Dr. and Mrs. McCann left Ionia about the first of March, expecting to remain in Florida about three weeks. In Ionia Wallace H. Jackson, Ionia funeral director, said Mrs. McCann had called here Thursday morning, and that it appeared likely the funeral would be held Monday. Arrangements are to await word from Miami. He said because of the nature of Dr. McCann’s injuries details were being handled by officials in Miami and shipment of he body must await the hearing. Dr. John J.
