Wm. J. McCann, pastor of St. Ann’s Catholic church at Cadillac, passed away Saturday evening following serious operation performed there on Thursday. He was 49 years of age. Fr. McCann was born at Mt. Pleasant, he was ordained in June 1916, he was first assigned as assistant at SS Peter and Paul church in Saginaw, after which he came to St. Andrew’s in Grand Rapids. He was at St. Mary’s church in Bay City for two years and then became pastor of the Catholic church in Alma where he remained for eight years, before going to St. Ann’s at Cadillac about three years ago. Fr. McCann became ill April 12 and was taken to St. Mary’s hospital in Grand Rapids and then later was taken to Ann Arbor. He is survived by five brothers, Dr. John McCann, a physician at Ionia; Dr. Robert McCann, a dentist at Marquette; Thos. McCann of Wheeling, W. Va.; Frank McCann of Detroit, and Aloysius McCann of Mt. Pleasant. Fr. McCann is well known to many in this vicinity, having been here many times while pastor at Alma for events connected with St. Mary’s church, and was highly regarded by all who knew him. He and Fr. O’Toole were warm friends. Funeral services were held at St. Ann’s church in Cadillac Tuesday morning and at Sacred Heart church in Mt. Pleasant Wednesday morning. Rev. P. A.
