McCarthy, 55, died at his home on West Washington street Tuesday afternoon after a five-months illness of tuberculosis. The funeral services will be held in the Hubbardston Catholic church Friday morning at 10 o’clock and the body will be placed in the receiving vault until spring when it will be interred in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. McCarthy was born in Muskegon and spent much of his boyhood there. Later he went with his parents to Ft. Wayne, Ind., and had also lived in California and Iowa but Grand Rapids, where he learned the upholsterer’s trade and where his aged mother lived he felt was his home. June 16, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Marion Pierce, sister of Mrs. Charles Kench, of Ionia. His widow and his mother, the latter Mrs. Sarah McCarthy, 248 Lafayette avenue, S.E. of Grand Rapids, are the only near surviving relatives. Mrs. Sarah McCarthy is 84 years of age and a semi- invalid and will not be able to attend the services. Subsequent Publication: Saturday, February 23, 1929 The funeral services for John P. McCarthy, who died Tuesday afternoon, were held from the Bradley funeral home Friday at 8:30 in the morning, and at the Hubbardston Catholic church at 10 o’clock. Rev. Fr. Flannigan conducted the services. The bearers were Samuel Bosch, Noble Mix, Charles Kench, and Mr. Acker. The interment was made in the mausoleum, and will be removed to the Catholic cemetery in the spring.
