Matthew W. McCarthy, 48, of Grattan Township, passed away Thursday evening,
Sept. 22, 2005, at St. Mary’s Health Center, Grand Rapids, from heart
complications, with his family at his side.  Matthew was born Nov. 22, 1956, in
Greenville, the son of Harold and Margaret Byrne McCarthy.  He graduated from
Belding High School with the class of 1974 and was a driver for Gainey
Transportation Corp.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and feeding wild birds.  In
earlier years he had played the guitar in a band with friends.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Harold, in 2000.  Matthew is
survived by his mother, Margaret McCarthy of Grattan Township; sisters, Susan
and Dave Young of Grattan Township, Sandy and Tom Treynor of Orleans, Sharon
Plumb and Richard Liening of Greenville; nieces and nephews, Kathleen, Mikayla,
James, Thomas, Kevin, Jason, Jesse, Ryan; great-niece and great-nephews, Kiyah,
Chad, Brett, Quintin; and special friends, Shane, Scott, Audrey, Kandice.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding,
with Father CK officiating.  Interment is in St. Patrick Cemetery, Parnell.  A
luncheon will be at Belding VFW Post 4406 following the service.  Visitation is
one hour prior to the service.  Memorials may be given to a charity of one’s
choice.
