County News, Thurs. January 29, 1931
Funeral took place yesterday afternoon for Mrs. J.A. McCarthy, 84, one of 
the oldest residents of the community, who died last Sunday evening at her 
home on west Main Street after a long illness.  The services were conducted 
by Dr. Paul L. Stewart. Burial was in the family lot at Woodard Lake 
cemetery.

Mrs. McCarthy was born in Wisconsin, but came to Ionia county when a young 
woman and had lived in this vicinity since. Prior to moving to Ionia, she 
was a resident of Ronald township. Her husband died  15 years ago.

A daughter, Mrs. Byron Yeomans; a brother, Dr. Frank Hargraves, of Palo and 
a sister, Mrs. Judevine of Ronald survive.
