The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, January 2, 1974

Alice J. McCartney, 81, of 835 Fifth avenue, Lake Odessa, died Wednesday 
morning at the Provincial house in East Lansing.  Born in Lake Odessa August 
29, 1893, she was the daughter of William H. and May E. Cornell McCartney.

She graduated from Lake Odessa high school in 1913 and Michigan State 
university at East Lansing in 1917 and received her masters degree from 
Columbia university at New York City, N.Y.  She was a resident of Lansing 25 
years.

Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Grace Gilson of Hallandale, Fla.

Funeral services will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Pickens-Koops funeral 
chapel in Lake Odessa.  Rev. William Hertel will officiate and interment will 
be at Lakeside cemetery.
