H. McCARTNEY DIED MON. A. M. Arthur H. McCartney, 47, died at his home here Monday morning from a stroke of paralysis suffered early in the morning. Though he had been in failing health for more than a year, his death came unexpectedly. He was born here May 4, 1898, and attended the local schools. He had been chief of the local fire department until forced to resign about a year ago on account of poor health. He was one of the organizers and the first president of the Lions Club, a member of Central Methodist church, and also of the LaVerne Demaray post of the American Legion here. He was the youngest child of the late Mr. and Mrs. William H. McCartney, pioneer business people of Lake Odessa. Following the death of his father in 1933 he took over the management of the McCartney Store where he had been associated with his father for several years. He was greatly interested in his home town and ever ready to help sponsor any project for civic improvement. He had been a member, and ardent supporter and active leader of the Boy Scouts for 35 years. In October, 1923, he was married to Miss Edrie Pull who survives him. Other survivors are three daughters the Misses Lucille of Detroit, Mary an attendant at Wayne university in Detroit, and Patricia at home, two sons, Arthur and William at home; one brother William C. in Lake Odessa, two sisters, Miss Alice McCartney of Detroit and Mrs. Leon T. Gilson, Lake Odessa. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon with the Revs. Leon W. Manning of St. Joseph ad J. Lawrence Ward, pastor of Central church, officiating. Interment was made in Lakeside cemetery under the auspices of the American Legion.
