Glenn I. McCarty, 75, died suddenly Sunday afternoon of a heart attack at the new Saranac Community church, prior to dedication services in which he was to take part. Rev. McCarty, who served as pastor of the church 13 years before retirement, was being honored with a room in the church named Rev. McCarty conference room, for his many years of service to the church. He was born in Evergreen township, Montcalm county on June 7, 1891, the son of William and Harriett McCarty. June 3, 1915, he was married to Eva Clark, who survives him. Besides his 25 years in the ministry, Rev. McCarty was a teacher and superintendent of schools at North Park, Breckenridge and Sheridan. Besides his wife Eva, he is survived by one son, Emerson of Saranac; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Davis of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Rosamond Helmer of Parma; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Lowell McCarty of Grand Rapids and former pastor of Portland Congregational church and Rev. Floyd McCarty of Sturgis. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at New Saranac Community church with Rev. Eldon Cummings officiating and interment in Saranac cemetery. The body will be at Morris Roetman funeral home in Saranac until Wednesday noon at which time it will be taken to the church.
