Aug. 24, 1933 The entire community was deeply shocked as the news was spread of the tragic death of Clyde McCall, aged 17, who as instantly killed about midnight Saturday night. He was returning home from Lake Odessa where he had spent the evening selling celery. The exact way the accident happened will never be known as the lad was alone. The general opinion seems to be that came to the town line corners without fully realizing where he was until he was right on the corner and as he attempted to turn that the truck was not so quickly turned and it dashed across the road and through guard rails where it tipped over. A couple of boy friends who had talked with him but a few moments before, heard the crash and hurried to the scene, finding Clyde had been instantly killed. The body was later moved to Wortley & Baine's Undertaking parlors at Lake Odessa, after which it was taken to the home of his parents, Mr.and Mrs. Leo McCall, near Peddler Lake. Besides his parents he leaves a sister, Eleanor and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.L. McCall and Mr. and Mrs. S.S. Weaver. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the home and later at the Congregational church at Clarksville. Burial was in the South Boston cemetery.
