Ionia Daily Sentinel, 27 Jun 1918

Mrs. Julia T. McConnell, aged 86, died last night at the home of her daughter, 
Mrs. J. B. Hudson, in Cleveland.  Mrs. McConnell was a resident of Ionia for 
many years and was in business here on Main street in the building recently 
torn down on North Depot street, and known in later days as the Page building.  
She was the widow of Fred McConnell, and for a number of years had made her 
home in Toledo and Cleveland with her daughter.  Three daughters survive, Mrs. 
Hudson, Mrs. W. H. Christian of Detroit, and Mrs. James H. Kidd.

The cut accompanying this sketch is a picture of the old building recently 
discussed in local news columns when it stood on Main street as a business 
place.  Although this building has been referred to as the old Page building, 
it was in reality not the old Page building and was never occupied by the Page 
business interests.  The building as it appears in the sketch bears the name of 
J. T. McConnell above the entrance and it was standing in 1856 and occupied by 
the McConnell hardware interests.  We are indebted to Chas. S. Morse, of Lead, 
S.D., who was a clerk in the store, for this date.  Mr. Morse states that when 
he came to Ionia in 1856 this building was standing.

Mrs. McConnell was the daughter of Judge Edward Mundy of Ann Arbor, Michigan’s 
lieutenant governor under Gov. Stevens Thompson Mason, and acting governor.  He 
was later a justice of the supreme court of Michigan.  She was the last 
surviving member of her family.

The burial, the time for which has not been set, will be in Grand Rapids, where 
her husband is buried, in Fulton street cemetery.
