The Portland Observer, Wednesday, August 11, 1880
Died at the resident of his son, R. D. McCnonell, James McConnell, at the 
advanced age of 86 years.  The deceased was born in Stranorlar Co., Donegal, 
Ireland, where he early united with the Presbyterian church of which 
denomination he was a strong adherent at the time of his death.  He emigrated 
to the United States in 1824.  Deceased was a man much respected in the 
community in which he resided, his firmness and decision of character coupled 
with his close perception of what was just and right commending him to all who 
knew him.
