He was born May 27th, 1920 in Ionia, the son of Joseph Paul McCord and Marion (Dunning) McCord. On New Year's Eve in 1944, he married Genevieve Adel Messer from Lyons. He started working at Ypsilanti Reed/Mitchell Bentley in 1941 and eventually retired in 1982 from Gen Corp Automotive after 40 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Ionia Hunting and Fishing Club for many years. Later, he loved watching NASCAR Racing and Golf on television. He served during World War II in the Army as a Refrigeration Mechanic-Technician Grade 5 for 3 years (1942-1945). He eventually was stationed in Hawaii where he had some jungle training and than MP Duty at the Main Gate, between Pearl Harbor and Honolulu on the Island of Oahu. When the war ended he was the Assistant Manager in the Main PX Store until he was sent home. He is survived by one daughter, Kathleen (Jonathan) Bunce of Ionia; one step- son, David (Rhonda) Totten of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Tamara Thomas of Belding; Jon (Michelle) Bunce of Belding; Jim (Jennifer) Bunce of Belding; Sherry Thacker of Greenville and Todd (Kelly) Musser of Saranac; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Harold (Penny) McCord of Ionia and one niece and five nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Genevieve; both parents; one brother, Morris McCord and a very dear friend of many years, Julia Whorley of Saranac. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 22nd, 1:00 P.M. at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment will be at the Easton Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8:P.M.. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to ICMH Homecare or the American Cancer Society.
