October 14, 2023 MCCORD Beverly Bliss McCord wet to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Green Acres of Lowell. Beverly was born on November 29, 1923 to Carl and Nora Bliss in Ionia. When she was six the Great Depression started and lasted all through her school years. A few months after her high school graduation, Pearl harbor was bombed and the United States entered WWII. For the first 25 years of her life the National News was almost always had, but in spite of all the problems her parents were able to give her a stable and loving upbringing. She was a very good saxophone player in high school and played in a jazz band. after graduation from Ionia high School, she attended County Normal to train to be a country school teacher. She worked as a teacher for two years and then went to work as a secretary at the Ionia County Hospital and eventually applied for a job at Hiler's Department Store.The day she applied for that job was the luckiest day of her life because that was the day she met Eldon "Bud" McCord.He also worked at Hiler's. They married in 1947. In 1958 Bud and Jerry Horrocks decided to establish a partnership and opened Horrock's Farm Market in Lansing. With much hard work, the business grew and prospered.Beverly Worked alongside Bud as the bookkeeper at Horrock's Farm Market.In 1978, Bud decided to retire and sell his half of the business and they were able to travel.They traveled all over the United States in their travel trailer and also took several trips to Europe. Beverly has been a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Ionia. Her faith and her church have always been very important to her and has been a very active church member. Her family has always been the most precious thing in her life and she has enjoyed being an active and devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.She always tried to attend every event her grandchildren were involved in. Beverly also enjoyed walking, reading, Bible sturdy and playing bridge. Beverly is survived by her three children, Nancy (James)Kelly, Carole (Will) McCord and Steve (Margo) McCord; five beloved grandchildren, Carrie Lich, Robbie McCord, Paul McCord, Leah McCord Zagore and Tommy McCord seven great-grand- children and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon R.McCord; granddaughter, Laura Nelson Stibitz and her brothers, Donald Bliss and Ronald Bliss. Religious services will be conducted by Pastor Kevin Kinsinger at 11:30 a.m., Friday, October 20, 2023 at First Christian Church. 130 E. Washington St.,Ionia. The family will receive friends from10:30 until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Interment will follow at Easton township Cemetery. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Ionia.
