Leaves Two Brothers and Two Sisters. William McCreery, 59, who has made Lake Odessa his home for the past 35 years, was instantly killed about 2 o‘clock Tuesday afternoon on the farm of Marinus Moes, 60, six and one-half miles northeast of Lake Odessa. The accident occurred while McCreery together with Moes, George Long and John Moes were cutting down trees on the Moes farm. One tree had already been cut down by McCreery and M. Moes before the accident, but it had become lodged in a second tree. Attempting to fell this second tree, the two men miscalculated as to where the two trees would fall, and made a desperate dash to safety when the trees started to crash. McCreery became trapped in branches of the falling tree and was caught beneath the tree as it fell. His legs and arms were broken and his skull crushed. He was dead before he could be pulled free. Sheriff Leslie Murphy and Coroner Harry Myers investigated and said no inquest would be held. Mr. McCreery was a member of the local I.O.O.F. lodge. He is survived by two brothers, Roland of Lake Odessa, and Sherman of Grand Rpaids; two sisters, Mrs. Elzina Monroe, Hastings, and Mrs. Electa Hopkins, Detroit, and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday), at two o’clock at the First United Brethren church, the Rev. E. H. Humphrey officiating, with burial in Lakeside cemetery.
