Sparrow hospital, in Lansing, when Mrs. Ray R. McCrumb, better known in Portland as Mildred Hoover, passed into the unseen world beyond. Mrs. McCrumb had undergone a delicate operation on the Friday preceding her death and apparently lacked the necessary vitality to overcome the shock. She was given the best of medical attention and everything possible was done to save her, but in spite of these efforts she gradually grew weaker and weaker until the end. Relatives are crushed with the grief over her untimely demise, and the young woman’s Portland acquaintances have been given a shock from which they will not soon recover. Mrs. McCrumb’s maiden name was Mildred Esther Hoover. She was a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Harold Hoover, prominent residents of Eagle, and at the time of her death was just budding into her 20th year, having been born at Tuscola, Michigan, November 25, 1900. She came to Eagle with her parents in 1908 and remained at the parental home until her marriage to Dr. McCrumb, a son of the late Riley McCrumb, of Eagle, on July 23, 1919. Mrs. McCrumb attended the Portland schools for a couple of years and in June, 1919, scarcely a year ago, she graduated from the Lansing High. She possessed a genial, sunny disposition, spreading good cheer wherever she went, and naturally won many admirers. Dr. McCrumb, the surviving husband, is especially well known in Portland, particularly among the younger class of people. He is a graduate of the Portland High school and while attending school here became popular as an athlete. He was an army officer during the late war with Germany and for several months was stationed with the American expeditionary forces in France. Upon his marriage to Miss Hoover, which took place soon after his return from France, he entered upon the practice of medicine in Lansing, with offices in the Tussing building. he has been enjoying an excellent practice. Then, just as happiness and prosperity were beginning to come his way, death stepped in to crush his plans and hopes. Dr. McCrumb and the bereaved parents have the sincere sympathy of the whole community in their sorrow. Besides the husband and the parents, Mrs. McCrumb is survived by one brother, Harvey Hoover, of Lansing. Funeral services were held at the McCrumb home, 615 North Walnut street, Lansing, this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, and the remains were buried in Mt. Hope cemetery, Lansing.
