Portland Review - Monday, June 12, 1995

Gertrude McDaniel, 95, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Portland, died Tuesday, 
June 6, 1995.

She was born July 12, 1899, the daughter of John and Anna (Jones) McDowell. 
She retired from the Lakewood School System as a school teacher in 1965. She 
was active in Civic and Cultural activities, was a leader in the Blue Star 
Mothers during W.W.II, was a devoted member of the Portland United Methodist 
Church, a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the Ladies Literary Club of 
Portland. 

She is survived by three grandsons, George C. McDaniel of Bryant, AR, Dr. 
William C. McDaniel of Chicago and Stewart C. McDaniel of Portage; and five 
great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Alvin L. McDaniel in 1980; her 
only daughter, Elizabeth in 1982; and her only son, Dr. William McDaniel in 
1982.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 10, 1995 at 1 p.m. at the 
Gorsline-Runciman Co., Neller Chapel with Pastor Elaine M. Buker 
officiating.

Interment will follow in Portland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Chapel, Saturday from 11 a.m. until 
time of service.
