Nov. 10, 1882 Mr. John McDonald at his home in Ionia, Sunday , September 17th, aged 74 years. The death of an old resident seems to require something more than merely a passing notice, John McDonald was born in Pennsylvania, Armstrong county, then left his native town and started for the state of Ohio, where he was engaged in the merchant tailoring business for about five years, and in the autumn following, he with his family and several others came to Michigan, where he has since resided, thus being a resident for 28 years, has been a member of the Presbyterian church for 40 years. He was a Christian, a kind and loving father, ever ready to do his duty in whatever position he was placed. He leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his loss. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, Tuesday September 19th. An excellent address was given by Rev. Lamb.
