She had spent several winters in Florida and Arizona. She was born Jan. 11, 1913 in Lowell, the daughter of Leon and Susan (Reed) Nummer. As a child she moved with her parents to Orleans, and she was educated in Orleans Schools. She married Alton Perry, who preceded her in death, and later married Les Shippy, Arthur Annis and then to Harry McDowl, who preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1989. She was a member of Easton United Methodist Church, the Ionia Moose, and Sheridan VFW. She retired from General Motors after 35 years and was an avid bingo player and gardener. Surviving are her four daughters: Joan (Howard) Cook, of Pewamo, Shirley (Lloyd) Loop, of Florence, Ariz., Virginia (Terry) Wood, of Belding, and Delores Annis of Ionia; son Michael (Gwen) Shippy, of Chino Valley, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother Robert Nummer, of Ionia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Alton Perry, Les Shippy and Harry McDowl; sisters: Marge Rulan, Mary Henry, Mildred VanWagner and Thelma Babcock; brothers: Melvin and Manley Nummer; and great-grandchildren: Terry Lynn Keiffer and Jessica Long. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Easton United Methodist Church, which is located on the corner of Johnson and Potters roads, with Rev. Don Wells officiating. Interment will be in Tuttle Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held following the service in the church social rooms. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia Area Hospice, Arizona Hospice or the Ionia County Commission on Aging Meals on Wheels program.
