McGannon, 78, a life-long resident of Ionia and for many years an active officer in the DAR and the Ionia chapter’s regent, died at her home on old M-21 west of Ionia early Thursday morning. Mrs. McGannon’s death was attributed to a heart attack. She had been in ill health for a number of years. She was born in Ionia July 17, 1873, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Kidd. After her graduation from Ionia high school in 1891 Mrs. McGannon and her family moved to Aberdeen, S.D., where she remained for a year before returning to Ionia to be married in 1892 to Thomas McGannon. Mr. McGannon was an Ionia shoe merchant for many years before his death in 1922. While a resident of Ionia Mrs. McGannon had been active in many organizations including the DAR, Women’s Literary club, and the Rosary society of the SS. Peter and Paul church. Mr. and Mrs. McGannon had nine children, of whom eight survive her. They are Charles of Ionia, Thomas Lawrence of New York City, Mary McGannon, Joseph McGannon, Mrs. Katherine Gemuend, and Mrs. Jean Fryatt, all of Detroit; Mrs. Olive Droste of Lansing, and Mrs. Sarah Brown of Ionia. Mrs. McGannon’s father was a pioneer Ionia newspaperman and upon arrival in Aberdeen founded the newspaper there. Requiem high mass will be sung at SS. Peter and Paul church on High street at 9 a.m. Saturday. The rosary will be said Friday at 8 p.m. at the Boynton funeral home in Ionia.
