McGannon, wife of Charles W. McGannon of 550 East Main, died suddenly of a heart attack at 8:50 p.m. Saturday evening at her home. Mr. and Mrs. McGannon had returned to Ionia from California last Tuesday after visiting their daughter for two months. She had not felt well since returning. A native of Elmore, Ohio, now part of Toledo, Mrs. McGannon was a graduate of the University of Michigan, Cum Laude. She came to Ionia to teach and was an instructor of Latin for two years. Mr. and Mrs. McGannon lived much of their married life in Detroit where Mr. McGannon was in business. After they became residents of Detroit, Mrs. McGannon taught in Northern high school for four years. Mr. and Mrs. McGannon purchased and remodeled their present home about 10 years ago. Mr. McGannon commuted to his Detroit business until his retirement four years ago. She was a 50 – year member of the Detroit Women’s City club and an active member of the Ionia Art Guild. She was an artist and student, and an avid reader. Surviving besides Mr. McGannon are a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Graves Pino of Los Angeles, Calif.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Linda Lee Holm of Malibu, Calif., who lived with Mr. and Mrs. McGannon in Ionia through grade and high school; and three grandsons; and a sister, Mrs. George A. Keith of San Bernardino, Calif. Arrangements are being made in Ionia by Boynton funeral home. Services will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, Calif., near her mother, brother and two grandsons at a later date. Mr. McGannon will fly to California with the casket Tuesday morning.
