M. McKee, residing in Danby south of town, was dead, did not surprise those who had known her condition for some time, for just such news had been looked for for some time; nevertheless, it caused a pall to fall upon those who knew her, and knowing, respected and loved her. Some months since she was somewhat bruised upon her breast; at first nothing was thought of it. Later, however, there was every appearance of something more serious than had been thought and physicians at home and at Grand Rapids were consulted and Mr. and Mrs. McKee were told that the bruise had developed into a cancer and that they should prepare themselves for the worst – death could not possibly be a great way in the future. Since then Mrs. McKee has faced death with Christian fortitude; patient and cheerful at all times – right up to the very door of death and the brink of the grave. The death of the old is expected; the death of the young is always sad, especially when as in this case they have everything to look forward to and make life worth living – a kind and indulgent husband, a bright little boy, a pleasant home and loving friends. For these reasons the death of Mrs. McKee is an unusually sad one. She had lived in this vicinity but three years but in that time she had endeared herself to a large circle of friends. Short funeral services were held from her late residence on Saturday morning last by Rev. Terborg, after which the remains were taken to Sunfield for conveyance to Grand Rapids. Arriving at Grand Rapids the remains were met at the depot and taken to Fulton street cemetery for burial. Rev. Dan Bradley of the Park street Congregational church performed the last sad rites. Mrs. McKee was 35 years of age and leaves a husband and child, a boy about two years of age, besides her entire acquaintances to mourn her loss. Mr. McKee has the sympathy of all his acquaintances in his great loss and affliction.
