She was born July 27, 1915 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Michael Carl and Martha (Drzwiecki) Binder. Helen lived in Glenn, Michigan with her family from the age of seven years until she met and married Russell McKellips in 1934. Helen and Russell lived in Belding, Michigan and she worked at the Jolly Kids Garment Mfg. Co. before they settled into their home in Ionia in 1939. Russell preceded her in death. Helen had served the community as a den mother for cub scouts and a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Helen achieved the honor of being a 50 year member of the Women of the Moose in 2002. She held the office of Recorder for 13 years (1959-1972). She was a very active member, planning the meals put on for the public and earning many recognition's from the club including: Academy of Friendship (1964), Star Recorder (1972), College of Regent (1975), and receiving the Red Stole in Mesa, AZ (1982). She enjoyed her years of working on many projects for the Women of the Moose. In 2003, Helen moved to the Agape House foster home on East Main Street. The family wants to thank the many caregivers at the Agape House for providing a caring and loving environment for Helen in her final years. Helen is survived by brother Leonard (Mabel) Binder of Ionia, her sister Florence Buller of Wisconsin, her son Norman (Donna) McKellips of Ionia, her daughter Carolyn (Ira “Gene”) Miller of Arizona, her grandsons, Tim and Tom McKellips of Ionia, Mike (Sara) Miller of Arizona, her granddaughters Jodi Ballard and Erica Miller of Arizona, and her 5 great grandchildren; Timothy, Devin, Joani, Brian, and Nicole. Funeral services for Helen will be conducted by the First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2006 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
