MARIAN McKENDRY, 87
Marian McKendry, 87, of Ionia and Tucson, Ariz., passed away on Jan. 17, 2018, after
a valiant battle with small cell lung cancer.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1930, in Grand Rapids, to the late Joel and Ruth (Mercer) 
Benedict.

Marian graduated from Saranac High School in 1948. She married Meredith Kent Raymor
in 1949 in Saranac, who preceded her in death in 1966. In 1967, she married Harold
McKendry in Ionia, who preceded her in death in 2007.

Marian worked as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell telephone. As one of the
last operators in Ionia, she trained residents how to use rotary telephones. She later
worked as a secretary for Chrysler Corporation until they moved their operation to Canada. At
that time, at age 50, Marian returned to school, became an LPN and worked at the Ionia
County Memorial Hospital until her retirement.

She was a member of the Lyons-Muir Church in Muir.

She is survived by her children Polly (William) Bradway of Tucson, Ariz., Stephen
(Lisa) Raymor of St. Johns, Richard (Mary Jo) Mckendry of Lyons, Martin (Margo) McKendry of
Orleans, Terry (Teresa) McKendry of Ionia, and Marla (Signa) McKendry of Ionia;
daughter-in-law Robin Raymor, of Ionia; sister Sandra (Louis) Shafer of Ionia; grandchildren
Nick McKendry, Tom (Becky) McKendry, Alison (Kyle) Gould, Tony (Angela) Raymor, Brian 
Raymor, Sean McKendry, Evan McKendry, Robin (Jeremy) Tyler, Shawn Moore, Kati
Raymor, Adam (Bailey) McKendry and Bryan McKendry; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Isabella and
Gavin McKendry, Jordan (StarLynn) Arambula, Celeste, Kodah, Trevor and Shiloh Moore,
great-grandchildren Jayvin and Jaylynn Arambula; and many much-loved nieces, nephews
and cherished friends.

Marian was also preceded in death by her son Joel Howard Raymor, brother Richard
Mercer Benedict, great-grandsons Klayten Terry and Payton Lee Moore and nephew James Kent 
Shafer.

Special thanks to the amazing staff at Spectrum Health hospice in Big Rapids,
Michigan as well as TMC Hospice and Carondelet Hospice of Tucson, Arizona. And to our amazing 
angels Wendy, Missy , Debi, Dan and Teri, there are no words powerful enough to
express our gratitude.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in the spring,
according to Marian's wishes.
