Nov. 28, 2018 WAYNE ELMER McKENDRY Wayne Elmer McKendry of Cary, NC passed away November 18, 2018. He was born in Ionia, Michigan on January 23, 1943. His parents Elmer and Alice (Howe) McKendry had three children, Wayne being the only son. He married Polly Morrison, his High School sweetheart, on October 6, 1962 in Ionia. Wayne was a Class of '61 graduate of Ionia High School. In his younger years, he aspired to be a pilot, and flew for various airlines, ultimately retiring in 2003 as a Boeing 777 Captain for Continental Airlines. Wayne owned his own plane and taught his two sons how to fly. They are also both currently employed as major airline pilots. Wayne's daughter Anne is a well established Real Estate Broker locally of 16 years. In his free time, Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.He also enjoyed walking his Scottish Terriers, and was an avid fisherman. He was also a life-long Ham Radio operator as W8LUM. He was a member of resurrection Lutheran Church in Cary NC, frequently worshiping the Lord there on Sundays. Surviving Wayne are his loving wife of 56 years Polly McKendry of Cary, NC; children Christopher (Terri) McKendry of Fuquay Varina, NC; Scott McKendry and Maziel Arauz of Sanford, NC and Anne (Patrick) Bondurant of Holly Springs,NC. Wayne loved his grandchildren, Austin and Kaitlin Bondurant, Megan and Nicholas McKendry, and Conrad McKendry all miss him dearly. He is survived by his sister Shirley Tuttle of Greenville, MI. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Carol Scott. Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on North Jefferson Street in Ionia on November 30th at 11 AM, with Pastor Joe Fremer officiating. Interment will be at Highland Park Cemetery..
