January 7, 2023 MCKINCH Donald A.McKinch 07/05/1935-12/29/2022, 87 years Donald is survived by his wife of 68 years Norma, children,Vicki Kennedy (Mike), Tim McKinch (Angela), Sherrie McKinch (Freddie Kroft). Grandchildren Stacy Moore (Gabe) Jolene Hopkins, Josh McKinch (Stacy), Jesica Supplee (Ryan), Jennifer McKinch, James Kennedy (Carli), and Sarah Kennedy. He was also a proud great grandfather of Kali McKinch, Deagan Moore, Trenton Hopkins, Bryn McKinch, Ferran Moore, Rebecca Hopkins, Cooper Kennedy, Rhett Kennedy, Brooke Supplee and Sydney Supplee. He was preceded in death by parents Letha (Slade) McKinch and Bert A. McKinch, brothers and sisters Kathleen Ormsbee, Edith Burton, John McKinch, Ronald McKinch and Barbara Wilson. Donald was born in a small tarpaper home in Mesick, Michigan with twin brother Ronald. A family of modest means, when he graduated from high school his dad gave him and his twin, alarm clocks and said, "Move to town where you can get a job." He was employed at General Motors for 20 years. During those early years he returned to northern Michigan on weekends to go to dances and caught the eye of his soon to be wife, Norma. They were partners in many ventures and adventures. Ventures included their move to Saranac with the purchase of their farm. They later purchased Saranac Feed and Grain and later added M&B Hog Farms. He also was a shareholder in Ionia Pork, LLC. After retiring from the farm, real estate became his passion with D&N Real Estate which he continued to be involved until his passing.He believed and instilled in his family that your worth based on your work ethic.While work was always important, adventures were as well. Don and Norma traveled a great deal including Alaska and Hawaii and spent many winters in Florida. They once drove all the way thru Mexico without knowing a word of Spanish. Never wanting attention, he cared for many and contributed to those in need without ever wanting the acknowledgement. Many have referred to him as a "special kind of friend." Visitation was at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia, January 2, 2023, from 4:00 PM- 7:PM. A memorial service was held at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Noon with a visitation 1 hour prior. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post in Saranac.
