Oct. 22, 1923 LAKE ODESSA WOMAN KILLED BY P.M. TRAIN Son and Father-in-Law Severely Injured and Taken to Grand Rapids Hospital Saturday night about 11 o'clock the coupe driven by Mrs. Ben McLeod was struck by a Pere Marquette passenger train as it was pulling into Lake Odessa from the east. In the coupe with Mrs. McLeod were her son Wilson and her father-in-law, John Mcleod, who lives a few miles out of Lake Odessa. Mrs. McLeod and her son Wilson live in Detroit. Mrs. McLeod was killed instantly, her skull being severely fractured. John McLeod and Wilson received injuries and were taken to Grand Rapids on the train that hit them. The train was running at a low rate of speed as it approached the depot and Mrs. McLeod apparently did not hear or see it coming as she drove directly ahead of the engine. the care was dragged from two or three feet scattering it's victims along the route. The car is a total wreck. Sheriff Cook and Coroner Bradley were called. A jury was summoned composed of Harry Hough, Edwin Shellhorn, F.W. Smelker, Rollo Snyder, Fred Urtel and Charles Dailey and the inquest is called for 9 o'clock Tuesday morning. Additional Comments: Mrs. Ben McLeod Detroit 1920 census Dist. 5.
