September 30, 2023 MCLEOD Pearl Lucile McLeod, age 93, of Ionia passed away on September 22, 2023. She was born i Easton township, Michigan, the daughter of Thomas and Bertha (Jensen) Ross on February 24, 1930. Pearl married Robert G.McLeod in Lake Odessa on January 16, 1948. He preceded her in death in March 2008. Together they raised three children. Pearl is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Joe) Irish of Ionia and sons, Mitch McLeod of Grand Rapids and Harold (Sheila) McLeod of Ionia. She is also survived by ehr grandson, Stephen Lake and great-granddaughter Gabrielle Lake of Byron Center; step-grand children, John (Lisa) Irish of Surprise,Arizona, Ryan (Amy) Irish of step=great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Ross, many nieces and nephews and her beloved Shih Tzu, Bella. Preceding her in death are her parents; sisters, Virginia, Shirley and Helen (John) Hague; brothers, Thomas Jr., Howard and Robert. She also was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron (Urdes) McLeod, Anita (Robert Amy, Dean (Gladys)McLeod Max (June) McLeod, Lyle McLeod, Geraldine (Lloyd) Ulrey and several nieces and nephews. Pearl was a stay-at-home mom during her children's younger years. She later worked in the cafeteria at the Ionia High and Junior High School before taking a position in the cafeteria at Ionia County Memorial Hospital, and later as a housekeeper. Her favorite job was serving as a volunteer at the hospital after her retirement.She loved visiting with the people and patients. Pearl loved reading, country music and talking to people. She was an original audience member to the Ionia County Commission on Aging each Thursday evening, listening to the Grand Valley Strings band members play and sing. She loved dancing and socializing with the band and audience members. Funeral services for Pearl will be at the Lake Funeral Home, 3521 S.State rd., Ionia on Thursday, September 28th, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be on the day of the service from Noon until the time of service. Interment will take place at Easton township Cemetery following the funeral. In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions to Ionia County Commission on Aging.
