The deceased came to Odessa in an early day when this part of the country was a wilderness. She did her bit in helping to make the country and society what it is today. She reared a splendid family of children and gave part of her life to other people’s children. Of an unselfish, cheerful, Christian character she leaves behind her an influence for much good. Sarah Klingman was born in Kent county, Michigan, August 1, 1858; departed this life December 1, 1929 at the age of 71 years, 3 months, 27 days. Her parents, Jacob and Beleren Klingman, came to Michigan in 1853 from Ohio; her mother passed away when Sarah was 11 years of age, thus at this early age she assumed the duties of the household and the care of her two brothers and two sisters. In 1877 she was united in marriage to Angus McLeod; moving to Odessa township in 1880. Four children came to bless the happy union, all now living, Mrs. Mary Reahm of Odessa, John and Gilbert of Woodland and Mrs. Myrtle Patrick of Aberdeen, Washington. Her life was one of service, having cared for and reared her own family and taking other children into her home, caring for and rearing six children besides her own. Early in her married life she found the Lord at a revival held in the old West Odessa U.B. church, henceforth remaining a faithful and earnest worker until her death. To serve Christ soon became her ruling passion in life. The last two years were days of suffering but the end came in great peace and the joy of going home far outshone the shadows of pains. Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 and at the church at 2:30, December 3, 1929, Rev. C. N. Stormes delivered the sermon from Isiah 50:10 theme, “The Ministry of Suffering.” Rev. Loomis of Woodland and Rev. M. H. Dawson assisted in the services; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mourer brought the message in song. Interment at the Lakeside cemetery.
