McMeen, 77, of 313 East Washington died Thursday afternoon at Ionia County Memorial hospital following an extended illness. She had been hospitalized two and a half months. She was born February 11, 1891 in Ionia, the daughter of John A. and Clara Smith Scheurer. In 1931 she was married to Clifton G. McMeen in Detroit; he died in 1944. Before moving to her present address she had lived at 422 North Jackson 14 years. A retired school teacher she taught in the Detroit public school system 20 years. She was a graduate of Ionia high school and Western Michigan Normal at Kalamazoo. A member of First Baptist church she also belonged to the CCW class of the church. She was a member of Ionia Senior Citizens club and Ionia American Legion auxiliary of World War I. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. R. S. Sykes of Ionia and Mrs. Wayne Quigley of Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Myers funeral home with Rev. Lowell Young of First Baptist church officiating. Interment will be at Highland Park cemetery. Family will be at the funeral home Saturday from 7 until 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer society. Subsequent Publication: February 10, 1969 Rev. Lowell Young of First Baptist church officiated at funeral services Monday for Mrs. Gertrude A. MeMeen who died Thursday. Interment was at Highland Park cemetery. Bearers were Kenneth Gardner, Harold Clements, William Salem, Louis Bricker, James Roberts and Kenneth Scheurer. Organizations attending a group were the CCW class of First Baptist church, Ionia Senior Citizens club and American Legion WWI auxiliary. Attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. White of Ada, Helen Adams of Lowell, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Camp and Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Bruinslot all of Grand Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Cook of Pewamo, Mrs. Mary Knott and Robert Knott both of Carson City.
