The funeral, held Wednesday afternoon in the Congregational church, was well attended. Rev. L. L. Steadman preached the sermon, music was furnished by a male quartette composed of Messrs. William and L. T. Gilson, S. W. Dann and William Maher, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Slossen, and the remains were interred in Lakeside cemetery. Because of the advanced age (104 years and six months, at the time of his death), Mr. MCMullen presented a figure in local history whose likeness will not be seen for generations. He was a native of Pennsylvania, and in his boyhood was well acquainted with the McKinley family, and sold iron ore to the martyred president's father. Twenty-seven years ago he drove through in a double buggy with wife from Wisconsin to Michigan, and has been a resident of this community ever since. Perhaps the most remarkable feature of Mr. McMullen's life was the activity that was his almost until the time of his death. In his youth her acquired not a little fame as a wrestler, and his physical vigor stayed with him long after he ceased to take part in athletic sports Fishing was one of his prime diversions, and last August, after a heavy rain had spoiled the prospects of his birthday party, he rowed out on the lake alone and made an excellent. catch. He continued to read entirely without glasses all his life, although he had much use for newspapers and magazines, being a staunch Democrat and one who kept well posted on all subjects. He leaves an aged sister, Mrs. Lucretia Wilson, with whom he lived, to mourn his loss and many other relatives and a host of friends.
