Richard was born on July 19, 1930 in Berrien County, the son of Cecil and Dorothy Ames McNeal. He probably served his country during the Korean War with the United States Marines. He later graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor of arts degree. He was a past member of Grand Rapids Club of Printing House Craftsman, the board of directors of the Lowell YMCA and master of the Lowell Masonic Lodge. Richard served on the board of directors of the Lowell Showboat, entertained on the Showboat stage, and played the Showboat calliope in numerous parades and functions throughout Michigan for more than 25 years. Richard had played the organ and served as choir director for several churches in the Lowell area. He was blessed with a wonderful singing voice and sang at numerous weddings, funerals and other functions during his lifetime. He was also actively involved with and very proud of his sons and Gus Macker. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded by his parents. He was married on July 17, 1955, in Ithaca to Bonnie Gabrion and she survives along with his sons and their spouses, Scott and Renee McNeal of Belding, Mitch and Cheryl McNeal of Greenville; his grandchildren, Margaret “Meg,” Samantha, Jaclyn, Brendan, Austin; his brothers and sisters, Wesley and Mary McNeal, Barbara Mott, all of Tennessee, Kathleen and Roger Rey of Oregon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Belding United Methodist Church. Following the church service a luncheon will take place at St. Joseph Church, Belding. Private interment will take place in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding.
