McNee, 47, of Belding, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly late Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18, 2006 in the emergency room of Spectrum Health United Memorial United Campus, Greenville. The son of Richard B. and Ruthe L. Straw McNee, he was born on June 30, 1958 in Grand Rapids. Kevin had retired from Baker Furniture in Grand Rapids, was writing his first novel, and enjoyed fishing and motorcycles. On Jan. 31, 1979, in Grand Rapids, he married Shirell Diane “Sherry” LeFevre. A devoted husband and father, he was very supportive of his wife in her financial planning business, Cardinal Rule, where she worked with their daughter, Niki, with occasional help from grandson, Dom. Kevin was especially proud of his son’s service to our country. In his death, Kevin gave the gift of life by being an organ and tissue donor. Surviving are his wife, Sherry McNee of Belding; a daughters, Niki McNee and Andy Lester of Grand Rapids; a son, Spec. Clayton McNee, currently serving with the U.S. Army at Fort Detrick, Md.; two precious grandsons, Dominick Gage and Ashton John Lester-McNee; his parents, Richard and Ruthe McNee of Irons; two sisters, Cynthia and Joe Kessenich of Ada, and Carol and Rick Post of Saranac; brother, Brian and Tami McNee of Belding, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Honoring Kevin’s wishes, a traditional Scottish wake will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the McNee home, 5005 Zahm Road, Belding (two miles south of the Wesco station). As requested, cremation has already taken place at Myrtle Park Crematorium, Rockford. Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, Greenville, is serving the family and was entrusted with the arrangements.
